National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE)

NICE provide guidance to ensure quality and value for money. NICE guidance supports healthcare professionals and others to make sure that the care they provide is of the best possible quality and offers the best value for money.

They provide independent, authoritative and evidence-based guidance on the most effective ways to prevent, diagnose and treat disease and ill health, reducing inequalities and variation.

The guidance is for the NHS, local authorities, charities, and anyone with a responsibility for commissioning or providing healthcare, public health or social care services.

NHS Evidence

NHS Evidence is a service that enables access to authoritative clinical and non-clinical evidence and best practice through a web-based portal. It helps people from across the NHS, public health and social care sectors to make better decisions as a result. NHS Evidence is managed by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE).

NHS Evidence - QIPP

NHS Evidence – Quality, Innovation, Productivity and Prevention (QIPP) is a collection of real examples of how health and social care staff are improving quality and productivity across the NHS and social care. The QIPP collection also has Cochrane topics drawn from systematic reviews by the Cochrane Collaboration that may help inform local initiatives to address the quality and productivity challenge.

Cochrane Library

The Cochrane Collaboration is an international organisation whose primary aim is to help people make well-informed decisions about healthcare and health policy by preparing and maintaining high quality systematic reviews. The Cochrane Library is a collection of six databases that contain different types of high-quality, independent evidence to inform healthcare decision-making, and a seventh database that provides information about groups in The Cochrane Collaboration.

Office for National Statistics (ONS)

ONS is responsible for the production of a wide range of economic and social statistics published at a national level but also down to small local geographies.

Public Health England (PHE)

Public Health England (PHE) provides many high quality data and analysis tools and resources for public health professionals.

NHS Digital

Formerly the Health & Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC), their information is of value to commissioners, public health analysts, clinicians and informatics professionals in health and social care, as well as the public via the NHS.

They deliver a wide range of credible information resources to support the transformation of the NHS including topics on; population health analysis and surveys, health screening, clinical quality, prescribing, adult social care and NHS workforce.

NHS Digital Indicator Portal

This website gathers together a number of health and social care indicators. Currently these include:

  • Clinical Commissioning Group Outcomes Indicator Set (CCG OIS)
  • Compendium of Population Health Indicators (previously known as NCHOD)
  • Data for GP Practices
  • Local Basket of Inequalities Indicators
  • NHS Outcomes Framework
  • Summary Hospital-level Mortality Indicator (SHMI)
